Victor Yazbeck, MD, MS
Dr. Yazbeck established the DIASPORA FOR LEBANON as a novel and independent non-political organization with the ultimate goal of promoting and encouraging Lebanese talents in the Diaspora to play active roles in helping Lebanon and in building a better future for its people.
Dr. Yazbeck launched the DIASPORA FOR LEBANON inaugural GLOBAL INITIATIVE to maintain and promote excellence in higher education and training in Lebanese Biomedical Sciences, an area of much need in these difficult times. This project is unique as it will involve Lebanon’s leading universities and encourage collaborations among them while seeking to foster Excellence. It is one of the first and most ambitious initiatives in Lebanon’s history.

Victor Yazbeck was born in Batroun, Lebanon. He studied at the College of the Sisters of the Holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Batroun. He received his medical degree in 2004 from Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Lebanon. Then, he pursued one year of laboratory research at the American University of Beirut (Lebanon), followed by two years of laboratory postdoctoral fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX (USA). He completed his internal medicine training at SUNY Upstate, Syracuse, NY (USA), followed by a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA (USA) where he received a master’s degree in clinical/translational research.
Current position
He is currently an associate professor of Medicine, director of lymphoid malignancies, and leader of the hematological malignancies’ disease working group at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA.
Focus
His clinical and research interests are focused on lymphoid malignancies starting from mouse modeling of human disease, preclinical drug testing, to the conduct of well-designed innovative clinical trials.
Awards
He has received prestigious awards supporting his pioneering work and is a sought-after reviewer for research and educational grants from leading cancer organizations such as the American Society of Hematology and the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
Legacy
Finally, he has established a strong track record of mentoring students, residents, and fellows and is a strong advocate for allowing his trainees the opportunity to drive their own research.
